    • A system for screening cargo containers is provided including an image generation device, an apparatus for screening cargo containers and an output module. The image generation device generates an image signal conveying information related to the contents of the cargo container. The apparatus receives the image signal and a list of objects conveying objects expected to be present in the cargo container. A processing unit processes the image signal in combination with the list of objects and a group of target images associated with objects to derive mismatch information data. The mismatch information data conveys at least one distinction between the list of objects and the information related to the contents of the cargo container conveyed by the image signal. Information conveying the mismatch information data is released and conveyed to a user of the system by an output module.

    • A system for screening cargo containers is provided including an image generation device, an apparatus for screening cargo containers and an output module. The image generation device generates an image signal conveying information related to the contents of the cargo container.     • An apparatus suitable for screening a receptacle. The apparatus comprises an input for receiving an image signal, the image signal conveying an input image related to contents of the receptacle, the image signal having been produced by a device that is characterized by introducing distortion into the input image. The apparatus also comprises a processing unit operative for: applying a distortion correction process to the image signal to remove at least part of the distortion from the input image, thereby to generate a corrected image signal conveying at least one corrected image; processing the corrected image signal in combination with a plurality of data elements associated with a plurality of target objects in an attempt to detect a presence of at least one of said target objects in the receptacle; and generating a detection signal in response to detection of the presence of at least one of said target objects in the receptacle.

    • A system for screening luggage items, which includes an image generation device suitable for generating an image signal associated with a luggage item where the image signal conveys information related to the contents of the luggage item. The system also includes an apparatus having an input for receiving the image signal and a processing unit. The processing unit processes the image signal in combination with a plurality of target images associated with target objects to detect a presence of at least one target object in the luggage item. The processing unit generates a detection signal in response to detection of the presence of at least one target object in the luggage item. An output module conveys information derived at least in part on the basis of the detection signal to a user of the system. In alternative embodiments, the system may also be used to screen cargo containers and persons.

    • An object of the present invention is to provide a method of proximity detection based on transmitting at random intervals burst of a RF signal at a power level, and receiving, while not transmitting, a received RF signal. When detecting said received RF signal emitted by a target in range; an alarm signal is provided to warn of the proximity of the target. Another broad aspect of the invention is to deploy the above method among members of a territory and provide a monitoring patrol to verify if the proximity of those members can be detected from their RF signal. Another broad aspect of the invention is to provide to those members a plurality of status from which each member selects one corresponding to its current status and to transmit that status in the RF signal he is transmitting, thereby informing other members in range of his current status and enabling them to evaluate the potential danger associated with him.

    • A simple optical position encoder of detecting the position of a light spot generated by any light source of either light generating or light reflecting type, directly in a binary or other encoded format at very high speed, comprises a diffractive optical element including an array of diffractive cells each being formed by a unique arrangement of diffractive sub-cells and being disposed at a predetermined position with respect to a predetermined reference point on the diffractive optical element. Each cell is capable of generating a unique optical diffraction pattern when illuminated. When an image of the light spot is formed on the diffractive element, at least one cell is positioned to receive the light spot input image, generating its unique optical diffraction pattern accordingly at an output image plane, where one or more optical detectors are disposed. The detectors are responsive to the unique optical diffraction pattern to generate one or more encoded signals indicative of the position of the light spot image with respect to said reference point. Described applications of the basic embodiment of the position encoder includes absolute three-dimensional position measurement of a light spot formed on a object, position encoding of a light peak generated by an optical processor or correlator and absolute/relative position detection of a light spot generated by or reflected onto an object in a two-dimensional coordinates system.
