    • A body member for an extrusion die for multilayer film has a passage-forming surface and an open feed channel formed in the passage-forming surface. The feed channel continuously decreases in depth from the feed channel inlet, and the feed channel is of substantially constant-width substantially rectangular cross-section along substantially its entire extent. Corners of the feed channel may be slightly rounded. Substantially constant-width feed channels of substantially rectangular cross-section may be used in blown film applications, in which case the feed channel extends in a spiral from the feed channel inlet, and in cast film applications, in which case the feed channel extends substantially linearly from the feed channel inlet. Dies can be assembled by arranging two body members with their respective passage-forming surfaces opposed to one another.

    • Processes and apparatus for extruding a tubular film of polymer material. The apparatus comprises a circular coextrusion die having an inlet (10) for the or each component and having an exit channel (18) ending in a circular exit orifice (21) which is located radially outwardly from the die axis compared to the inlet (10). The die comprises several planar or conical die parts (5, 6, 7, 28, 29) clamped together, with surfaces supplied with grooves (14) shaped to form channels (11, 12, 13) for the flow polymer material. The shape of the channels is adapted to equalize the flow over the circumference of the exit orifice (21), and the flow of material is divided between the inlet (10) and the exit (21) into a number of part flows (13) of generally helical form with space (15) provided for overflow of material between said part flows, whereby the part are adapted so that they join to one common, circular flow.

    • A melt distribution block for a co-extrusion die has a generally annular body with opposed front and rear faces and opposed inner and outer faces. Inlets at the outer face have channel ports for accepting flow of melted polymer into the distribution block. Flow controlling valves independently control the melted polymer flow through each of the channel ports. Melt flow channels on the front and rear faces between the inner and outer faces are in fluid communication with the channel ports. A thermal insulation layer within the distribution block between the front and rear faces separate all or part of the melt flow channels on the front face from all or part of the melt flow channels on the rear face. The blocks, together with separator blocks, are axially stackable front to rear around a central mandrel to form an extrusion die for making blown films into tubular form.
