    • Rotary spinner apparatuses, systems and methods for producing fibers from molten materials are disclosed. Certain exemplary embodiments include rotary spinners including a hub, a slinger, an annular member, a retaining member, and a plurality of fasteners. In certain embodiments the hub, the retaining member, and the plurality of fasteners are structured to limit axial movement of the annular member relative to the hub member and to allow radial expansion and contraction of the annular member relative to the hub member. In certain embodiments the annular member is structured to contact the hub at a plurality of contact areas and is spaced apart from the hub at a plurality of gap areas. In certain embodiments the slinger is structured to contact the hub at a plurality of contact areas and is spaced apart from the hub at a plurality of gap areas.

    • A spinner for fiberizing glass has fiberizing holes formed in the spinner sidewall by a process utilizing an electron beam perforating process. A backing material used in the process is deposited on the walls of the fiberizing holes for increasing the corrosion resistance of the fiberizing holes. With regard to the formation of each fiberizing hole, an interaction of the backing material with an electron beam during the electron beam perforating process creates a gaseous backing material that expands through a hole created by the electron beam in the spinner sidewall to eject molten alloy material of the spinner sidewall made molten by the electron beam from the hole and deposit a thin substantially uniform coating layer of the backing material on the wall of the hole to increase the corrosion resistance of the fiberizing hole thus formed.

    • A novel spinner, for fiberizing hollow, irregularly-shaped insulating fibers is the subject matter of the present invention. The spinner is unique in a sense that its hole/slot pattern can be done by some standard drilling/milling techniques, which lower the cost of manufacturing. The invention uses two molten glasses (A and B) of different coefficients of thermal expansion, which are moved outwardly around the corresponding gas orifices by centrifugal force in a spinner pot. A stream of pressurized combustion gases is thrust through these central gas orifices to produce a hollow, non collapsible fiber of irregular shape. Molten glass A is introduced from the bottom of the spinner, and molten glass B is introduced above an uppermost flange and by means of centrifugal force, the two glasses A and B are forced upwardly and downwardly, respectively, into fiberizing centers. The improvement of the present invention is that by using both horizontal baffles and vertical compartments, a greater number of fiberizing orifices can be created on the spinner outside peripheral side wall.
