    • Disclosed is a hydraulic motor with a nutating member. The nutating member mounted for nutation on a spherical surface bearing which in turn is mounted on a casing, has first and second bevel gears on respective end faces thereof, the first bevel gear on one end face being in mesh with a bevel gear rigidly mounted on the casing while the second bevel gear on the other end face being in mesh with a bevel gear carried rigidly by a shaft. A swash plate mounted on the casing for coaxial rotation with the shaft has an inclined end face against which said one end face of the nutating member is made to contact and being pressed thereagainst under the forces of pistons so that the swash plate with the inclined end face is caused to rotate, whereby the nutating member is made to nutate. Such nutation of the nutating member due to extension and retraction of the pistons under hydraulic pressure in a predetermined sequence results in the rotation of the shaft or the casing with respect to each other.

    • An axial piston hydraulic motor of the type wherein the motor drive shaft and cylinder block are coaxial characterized in that the pistons react against a nutating gear which progressively meshes with a gear having a different number of teeth, one gear being non-rotatable in the motor housing and the other gear being non-rotatable on the drive shaft whereby the drive shaft and housing are relatively rotated during each nutation of the nutating gear through an angle depending on the difference in the number of teeth of said gears. The motor herein is further characterized in that each piston as it reciprocates in its bore constitutes a three-way valve to alternately communicate an angularly displaced piston bore with the pressure inlet and return ports in the housing via passages in the cylinder block communicating with said ports and with such angularly displaced piston bore.

    • An axial piston hydraulic motor especially suited for low speedhigh torque applications as an actuator for large size valves such as gate, globe, plug, ball, and butterfly valves characterized in that coaxial high speed and low speed shafts are journaled in the motor housing with said high speed shaft having a bent axis portion on which a piston actuated nutating bevel gear member is journaled for nutation while the teeth of its coaxial bevel gears progressively mesh with bevel gears which are coaxial with said output shaft and which are respectively fixed in said housing and on said low speed shaft whereby a difference in number of teeth in either or both of the progressively meshing sets of bevel gears results in desired low speed-high torque driving of said output shaft and of the valve stem adapted to be coupled thereto. The hydraulic motor herein is further characterized in that the high speed shaft may be driven manually or by power means other than hydraulic to cause nutation of the nutating member and consequent low speed-high torque driving of the output shaft in the event of loss of hydraulic pressure for actuating the axial pistons of the motor.
