    • A miniature circuit breaker having a pair of operable contacts in a main current path between a line terminal and load terminal, a trip mechanism for opening the contacts if an overcurrent condition occurs, and an electric motor to close the contacts via a contact closing mechanism. The trip mechanism includes a trigger mechanism and a contact opening mechanism, a current sensor arranged to detect current through the main current path, and a control unit. The trigger mechanism triggers the contact opening mechanism if a trip signal is produced. The control unit produces a trip signal to operate the trigger mechanism if it determines a short circuit condition occurs based on output of the current sensor; and the control unit is arranged to operate the electric motor to trigger the contact opening mechanism into opening the contacts independently of the trigger mechanism if it determines that an overload condition occurs.

    • A device for protection against voltage surges comprises a stationary electrode and a movable electrode arranged facing an arc extinguishing chamber. The movable electrode is driven by a mechanisms, by an electromechanical actuator and/or by an electromagnetic circuit. At rest, the movable electrode is situated at a distance from the stationary electrode. When a voltage surge occurs between the electrodes, an arc arises and extends in the chamber in which it is extinguished. If the arc continues, in particular in the case of a follow current of high energy, the movable electrode is driven to a disconnected position moving away from the stationary electrode, which has the effect of lengthening the arc even more in the chamber to facilitate its extinction and perform disconnection of the circuit. A pair of contacts may be associated in series to the electrodes, one of the contacts being stationary and the other being fixedly secured to the movable electrode. A spark gap can also be associated to the electrodes.

    • In an overcurrent-tripping device for a circuit breaker, an electromagnet is used to open a movable contact shoe when a heavy current flows through a conduction path. A push rod is provided so as to contact the movable contact shoe. The electromagnet of the overcurrent-tripping device is located above the push rod so as to attract a movable iron core of the overcurrent-tripping device linearly along a moving direction of the push rod. When the heavy current such as a short-circuit current flows through the conduction path, the movable iron core is attracted to push the movable contact shoe via the push rod for rapid opening of the movable contact shoe. Thus, before a tripping operation of the opening-and-closing mechanism, the movable contact shoe is moved, so that the time required by the movable contact shoe for the opening operation is reduced.

    • There are arranged at a magnetic trigger for a selectively operative switch, a plunger-type armature, a pivotable armature and a tripping device. A plunger of the plunger-type armature acts directly upon a movable contact of a pair of contacts and the plunger-type armature is actuated using a magnetic coil or winding when the current flowing through the magnetic coil at least corresponds to a predetermined threshold current for opening the contacts. A pivotable armature is actuated by the plunger-type armature and redirects the magnetic return flux. The tripping device acts upon a switch lock mechanism and is switched into or out of the magnetic return flux by the plunger-type armature. The degree of overlap between pole shoes of the pivotable armature and of the tripping device is preselectable by an adjusting screw. There is thus realized a current-dependent, selective tripping of the switch lock mechanism.

    • A circuit breaker capable of breaking an associated circuit when an overcurrent higher than a rated current keeps flowing through the breaker or upon a short-circuit current. Electric power path in the breaker is partly inserted through an arm of a magnetic material and holding a movable contactor plate of make-and-break contact means, an armature means is provided as pivoted at one end to the holding arm, and a tension spring means is provided between the other end of the armature means and the movable contactor plate to provide a contact pressure. The overcurrent flowing through the path causes a magnetic force to be induced in the holding arm, whereby the armature means is rotated to change the direction in which the force of the tension spring means acts on the movable contactor plate and the latter breaks the contact means.
