摘要： An image scanning apparatus performs operations including: upon detection of a first angle, causing light to be emitted to an original and recording a distribution of reflected light of the emitted light as first read data; upon elapse of a predetermined time from detection of a second angle, causing light to be emitted to the original and recording a distribution of reflected light of the emitted light as second read data; detecting a closed state of a pressure plate based on the second read data; and upon determination of an angle of the pressure plate with respect to the platen being equal to or smaller than a third angle smaller than the second angle in the detection of the closed state, detecting a width of the original in an opening-closing direction of the pressure plate based on a difference between the first and second read data.

摘要： A printer that includes systems for detecting transparent medium may include a medium dispenser for transporting print medium along a transport pathway to a print station which receives the print medium. Transmitters and receivers may be positioned on opposite sides of the transport pathway for scanning the print medium with a light beam. The sensor arrangement may be configured to detect deflection of the light beam when a transparent print medium is transported on the transport pathway between the transmitter and the receiver. The results of the scan may be communicated to a controller to facilitate proper print settings.

摘要： A document reading unit included in an image forming apparatus and operated with a method of detecting an original document, includes an original document table, a moving irradiation unit having multiple block light sources moving in a sub scanning direction while irradiating the original document, an image sensor receiving reflected light, and a controller that starts a length specifying operation with the moving irradiation unit located at a position facing the original document, sequentially turns on the block light sources, obtains an amount of reflected light under lighting conditions of each block light sources, and determines the length of the original document in the main scanning direction. While the moving irradiation unit is moving in the sub scanning direction, the image sensor receives the reflected light on a region of the original document in the sub scanning direction under each lighting condition during the length specifying operation.

摘要： In an image reader, a reading member fixedly mounted in the image reader reads an image on a sheet conveyed into the image reader. A guide is disposed opposite the reading member to support the sheet with respect to the reading member. A guide moving member moves the guide with respect to the reading member in a main scanning direction in which the reading member reads the image on the sheet. A guide rotating member rotates the guide in a sub-scanning direction perpendicular to the main scanning direction. A controller controls the reading member to scan different positions on the guide moved by the guide moving member and rotated by the guide rotating member to generate shading data.

摘要： Unintended image inversion is prevented when an optical reading device processes images captured by an optical reading device that uses a linear image sensor having the photodetectors arrayed in a line. An optical reading unit has a linear image sensor with photodetectors arrayed perpendicularly to the transportation direction of the recording medium S to be scanned, optically reads the conveyed recording medium by means of the linear image sensor, and sequentially outputs the detection values of the photodetectors from an end of the linear image sensor. A gate array and CPU generate scanned image data based on the detection values read by the optical reading unit, add thereto information describing the relationship between the scanning sequence of the photodetectors of the linear image sensor and the pixel order of the scanned image data, and output to another device.
