摘要： Described herein is a multi-user retail photo kiosk system that includes multiple touch screen and Graphic User Interface (GUI) controlled consumer photo editing, photo print and product selection, and photo order placement terminals and multiple photo printers. The user photo kiosk terminals can receive images. Billing and payment is accomplished using barcoded receipts provided at the user terminal for payments for purchased photo products. A printer array incorporating various printers capable of producing prints or various sizes and formats can be configured as a horizontal counter or as a vertical tower and includes means to alert the user that their photo print order is complete. In addition, the system automatically notifies operators if equipment service, maintenance, media refilling, and/or post printing finishing procedures are required.

The communication port can read a portable memory device, which stores an electronic secure file for authorizing the print engine. The portable memory device may store data such as the creation date for the electronic secure file. The portable memory may also store the device identification code and/or the vendor identification code. The electronic secure file may also store the creation date for the file itself, and the device identification code, the vendor identification code, or a balance amount. The system may authorize a print engine by comparing the data in the electronic secure file and data stored on the portable memory device. If the comparison of data finds a mismatch, the system may determine that the print engine is not authorized; or that the service is authorized if otherwise.

摘要： An image forming apparatus includes a first login unit configured to perform login processing on condition that a user is authenticated based on authentication information input by the user, and a second login unit configured to perform login processing on condition that money is inserted by a user. The apparatus further includes an image forming unit configured to perform image formation according to an instruction from a user who has logged in via the first login unit or the second login unit, and a detection unit configured to detect occurrence of an error that requires maintenance, during the image formation performed by the image forming unit. The apparatus further includes a display unit configured to display a different screen depending on whether the user has logged in via the first login unit or the second login unit, when the occurrence of the error is detected by the detection unit.

Each user must be authorized to use the service and, in some embodiments, the user is provided with a predetermined amount of free usage per period of time such as five free print pages per week, twenty free print/copy pages per month, 50 free scan pages per month, etc. In some embodiments, after exceeding the predetermined free usage per period, the user is provided with further service at a fee, for example, five cents per page printed, etc.
