    • A transmission belt is made of a cord, a rubber or thermoplastic matrix, and an adhesion material which is able to adhere the cord to the rubber or thermoplastic matrix. The cord is made of at least two yarns, such that a first yarn has a melting or decomposition point T1 and a second yarn has a melting point T2, wherein T1>T2. A ratio of a linear density of the first yarn to a linear density of the second yarn is between 1,000:1 and 1:1, wherein the second yarn is fused to the first yarn. A method of making such cords includes intertwining the first and the second yarn and then heating to a temperature between T1 and T2, with the heating step being integrated with or followed by a step wherein the cord is subjected to a dipping treatment with a rubber adhesion material.

    • This invention relates to a method of promoting the adhesion of textiles to rubber compounds through a vinyl compound plasma pre-treatment procedure and a subsequent application of resorcinol-formaldehyde latex (RFL) to the textile surface. The inventive method encompasses a process through which free radicals of compounds comprising strong carbon-carbon bonds form a film over textile films and then covalently bonded to the resin component of the RFL. Such a method thus produces an extremely strong and versatile adhesive that facilitates adhesion between rubber compounds and heretofore unusable or difficult-to-use textiles. The resultant textile/rubber composites are utilized as reinforcements within such materials as automobile tires, fan belts, conveyor belts, and the like. Such materials and composites are also contemplated within this invention.

    • A method for bonding a material to a first substrate surface that includes providing a catalyst at the first substrate surface and then contacting that surface with a material that undergoes a metathesis reaction to bond the material to the first substrate surface. There are two embodiments of this methodnulla coating process and an adhesive process. In the coating embodiment, the metathesizable material is contacted with the catalyst on the substrate surface so that it undergoes metathesis polymerization to form the coating. The adhesive process includes (a) providing a catalyst at the first substrate surface, (b) providing a metathesizable material between the first substrate surface and the second substrate surface, and (c) contacting the catalyst on the first substrate surface with the metathesizable material so that the metathesizable material undergoes a metathesis reaction and bonds the first substrate surface to the second substrate surface.
