    • A mounting member for attaching a front-loading syringe to a powered injector is disclosed. The present invention may also include a plunger that has a two-piece molded core portion that is readily attachable to a plunger drive member of a powered injector. The plunger core may also be equipped with an anti-cocking flange to prevent the plunger from being axially misaligned within the syringe body which could result in fluid leakage between the plunger and the syringe body. An alignment flange may also be provided on the plunger to assist with the proper insertion of the plunger into the syringe during the assembly process. A method of manufacturing a syringe plunger is also disclosed. The present invention further includes a sleeve for clampingly engaging a heating blanket to the outer surface of a syringe.

    • Various sealing structures are used in a front-loading injector, for preventing leakage of spilled fluid from an external surface of a syringe into the vicinity of the drive ram. For example, a sealing gasket may be incorporated into the front face of the injector housing, for mating to the rearward circular edge of the cylindrical body of a syringe. Alternatively, sealing and locking functions may be performed by a single structure on the rearward end of the syringe. Further, leakage may be prevented by including a non-planar sealing flange on the syringe, positioned on the syringe forward of the locking structure, or by a two-piece structure, including a syringe and a separate leakage stopping washer for surrounding the syringe to halt the flow of fluid along the exterior of the syringe. (As part of this aspect, or as an independent feature, the syringe may include an annularly discontinuous flange forward of the locking structure, for providing mechanical support for the syringe against the injector.) Alternatively, an iris-like structure may be incorporated into the front surface of the injector, for closing about the syringe upon insertion of the syringe into the injector.

    • A plunger rod for a syringe in is of integrally injection molded plastic construction having an elongated body with a coaxial end portion. An external thread extends around the end portion for threaded receipt into a plunger tip that is slidably received in a syringe barrel. A flat extends chordally across the end portion of the rod body interrupting the external thread. The plastic, of which the plunger rod is molded, is gated into the mold for the plunger rod at the flat that extends across the rod end portion, leaving a gate mark or vestige on the flat. Gating of the plastic material into the portion of the mold that forms the threaded end portion of the plunger rod achieves improved flow and improved filling of the external thread, while employing a simple and economical mold construction. The gate vestige does not interfere with threading of the plunger rod end portion into the plunger tip. The end portion of the plunger rod is cored during molding to provide a C-shaped cross section at the rod end portion, which improves dimensional stability during material shrinkage after molding.

    • This relates to an improved delivery system for accurately loading and controlling the delivery of flowable material to a patient. Particularly, the system may be used in the injection of hard tissue implant materials such as PMMA under pressures up to about 4000 psi. The system includes an applicator with a first column having an implant material introduction section adapted to provide for effective loading of the implant material and a second column housing a piston. The introduction section has a larger size than that of a vessel section or bore in which the requisite pressure seal between the piston and bore wall is formed. The first column may include an introduction section flared open to an included larger funnel-like opening or a separate funnel may be used that interfaces with the introduction section to facilitate the introduction of implant material. Handles on the first and second columns to be turned relative to each other to advance the columns toward each other may be provided for manual actuation of the applicator to drive implant material through a cannula and deliver implant material to a desired site.
