    • A computerized method and apparatus for high pressure grit or sand blasting comprises an upright cabinet through which work pieces, supported by a roller conveyor, can be disposed for blasting. An elongated actuator assembly horizontally extending across the enclosure interior comprises a pair of rigid, spaced-apart, rails upon which a displaceable carriage can move. The carriage supports a sand blasting head and nozzle. An internal tape within the actuator assembly moves the carriage. Tape condition is monitored by software in response to a magnetic sender driven by the tape idler pulley and an adjacent Hall effect sensor that picks up timed pulses. The actuator assembly is braced by buffer wheel assemblies at each end, in contact with vertical guide rails at each cabinet interior end. The hose-fed sand blasting head secured to the carriage directs sand or towards a target work piece be processed. The actuator assembly is vertically displaceable via cables controlled by an overhead servo motor, so that the sand blasting nozzle may be displaced in both horizontal and vertical. A programmable logic controller, armed with suitable software, provides operator menus for initiating various steps used in setup options, executing blast functions, moving the carriage blasting.

    • The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a glass substrate for information recording medium, the method including: a lapping step of lapping a circular glass plate made of an alkali aluminosilicate glass; and a subsequent cerium oxide polishing step of polishing the circular glass plate with a slurry containing a cerium oxide abrasive, in which a difference (SiO2−Al2O3) obtained by subtracting an Al2O3 content from an SiO2 content in the alkali aluminosilicate glass is 62% by mole or less; and in which the method further includes: subsequently to the cerium oxide polishing step, a cleaning step of cleaning the circular glass plate with a cleaning liquid having a sulfuric acid concentration of 20% by mass or more and 80% by mass or less and a hydrogen peroxide concentration of 1% by mass or more and 10% by mass or less at a liquid temperature of 50° C. or higher and 100° C. or lower, and after the cleaning step, a finish polishing step of polishing a main surface of the circular glass plate with a slurry containing a colloidal silica abrasive.

    • A cutting apparatus cuts a lateral wall of a manhole to form a hole on the lateral wall of the manhole. A circular pipe is harmonized with a main pipe and fixedly disposed therein. A rotary ring configured so as to be able to rotate along the periphery of an opening in the manhole about the axial center of the main pipe is mounted on the circular pipe. A pressurized fluid material or pressurized granular material is sprayed from a nozzle held in the rotary ring. The rotary ring is rotated and the lateral wall of the manhole is cut through along the periphery of the opening in the manhole by the fluid material or granular material sprayed from the nozzle. Since the cut portion is shaped as a circle symmetrical about the axial center of the main pipe, it is possible to form a circularly shaped cut-through part centered along the periphery of the opening in the manhole without accidentally breaking or damaging the lateral wall thereof.
