    • The invention relates to a process for preparing a poly-1-olefin by polymerization of a 1-olefin of the formula R4CH═CH2, where R4 is hydrogen or an alkyl radical having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms, in suspension, in solution or in the gas phase, at a temperature of from 20 to 200° C. and a pressure of from 0.5 to 50 bar, in the presence of a catalyst which comprises the reaction product of a magnesium alkoxide with a transition metal compound (=component a) and an organometallic compound (=component b) and whose component a has been prepared in a manner having the feature that a magnesium alkoxide powder having a mean particle size, expressed as the d50, in the range from 100 to 1000 μm is firstly processed by dry milling in a mill under inert conditions to produce magnesium alkoxide powder having a mean particle size, expressed as the d50, of less than 15 μm, then suspended in an inert hydrocarbon in which the magnesium alkoxide is insoluble, and is reacted immediately without further pretreatment with a transition metal compound of titanium, zirconium, vanadium or chromium.

    • Catalysts component of the (co)polymerization of alpha-olefins CH.sub.2 .dbd.CHR, wherein R is hydrogen or an alkyl radical having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, comprising a product of the composition:VCL.sub.y.z(b)wherein (b) represents an organic compound selected from alkyl, aryl and acyl halides, y is a number higher than 2 and lower than 4, and preferably comprised between 2.5 and 3.5 and z is a number higher than zero and lower than or equal to 2, and preferably between 0.002 and 1. Components can be obtained as products of the reaction, carried out at temperatures higher than 10.degree. C., between VCl.sub.4 and the compound (b). Particularly preferred among compounds (b) are benzoyl chloride, p-methoxybenzoyl chloride and p-chloro benzoyl chloride. From the components of the invention, either supported or not, catalysts having high activity particularly useful for the production of ethylene polymers showing broad molecular weight distribution can be prepared.

    • The present document describes the use of an inhibitor for cationic polymerization as an additive to a thermocurable composition based on at least one cationically polymerizable organic material and an initiator for cationic polymerization in the form of an onium compound or a compound of the formula (I)[M.sup.+n (L).sub.x ].sup.n+ nX.sup.- (I),in which n is 2 or 3, M is a metal cation selected from the group comprising Zn.sup.2+, Mg.sup.2+, Fe.sup.2+, Co.sup.2+, Ni.sup.2+, Cr.sup.2+, Ru.sup.2+, Mn.sup.2+, Sn.sup.2+, VO.sup.2+, Fe.sup.3+, Al.sup.3+ and Co.sup.3+, X.sup.- is an anion selected from the group comprising PF.sub.6.sup.-, AsF.sub.6.sup.-, SbF.sub.6.sup.-, BiF.sub.6.sup.-, derivatives of these anions in which at least one fluorine atom has been replaced by a hydroxyl group, and CF.sub.3 SO.sub.3.sup.-, or in which up to 50% of the anions X.sup.-, based on the total amount of anions, may be any desired anions, L is water or an organic .sigma.-donor ligand which contains, as bonding sites, one or more functional radicals selected from the group comprising --CO--, --CO--O--, --O--CO--O-- and --O-- and forms .sigma.-bonds with the central atom via the oxygen atom or atoms, and x is an integer from 0 to 6, and where the ligands L may be different within said definitions, or as an additive to components for the preparation of a composition of this type for avoiding initiator decomposition products which are formed due to moisture and reduce the thermal stability of the composition, and/or for increasing the thermal stability of the composition for a limited time before curing.
