    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device which requires a short warm-up time and has high energy saving property, while being capable of shortening first print time from the time for standing by for heating and of safely controlling the temperature of a fixing belt.SOLUTION: A fixing device 200 comprises: a fixing member 201 which includes a heat source 202 and is rotatable; a pressure member 203 which can be rotated by a drive source and forms a nip by pressing the fixing member; abnormal temperature detection means 210 which is arranged in an opposite position to the fixing member and detects an abnormal temperature rise of the fixing member; and position changing means 211, 214 which change the position of the abnormal temperature detection means relative to the fixing member. It performs fixing processing on a recording medium passing through the nip by directly heating the fixing member by the heat source without interposition of a heat conductor. A gap between the abnormal temperature detection means and the fixing member when the fixing member is not rotating is set by the position changing means to be smaller than that of when the fixing member is rotating.
