摘要： An image pickup apparatus for reading an object having a curved document surface such as an opened book, constructed to focus an optical system all the object. A line sensor is moved for scanning the object, thereby a distance between the line sensor and the object is measured, and the object is imaged while controlling an optical system based on data of measured distance so that an object image is in focus on the line sensor. This allows all over the object surface to be in focus, whereby the clear image without blur is obtainable.

The image scanning mechanism has an arrangement for reading the original image realized on the sheet either in a first mode of sensing light reflected by the sheet or in a second mode of sensing light transmitted by the sheet. The arrangement includes at least two different kinds of driving mechanisms, each being used for a respective one of the first and second manners. At least one of the two different kinds of driving mechanisms includes the direct driving mechanism.

摘要： A hand scanner support and paper guide apparatus is disclosed for mechanically scanning a thin sheet, e.g. a sheet of paper, using a scanner designed to be hand-held. The apparatus includes a housing which includes a planar upper wall which serves as a flat surface along which the thin sheet is moved. A support assembly is connected to the housing and supports the scanner a spaced distance above the planar upper wall as the thin sheet is moved past the scanner. A guide assembly is connected to the housing and guides the thin sheet in a straight path as the thin sheet is moved along the planar upper wall. A drive assembly is housed within the housing and moved the thin sheet past the scanner. The drive assembly includes a driven, thin-sheet-contacting element such as a cylindrical roller; and a slot, in the planar upper wall, permits the cylindrical roller to contact and move the thin sheet as it lies on the planar upper wall. The scanner support assembly includes a first support element which supports the scanner from below the scanner; and the scanner support assembly also includes a second support element which supports the scanner from above the scanner. The first support element may be a U-shaped bar that extends across the planar upper wall in spaced relation thereto. The second support element may be a flexible strap.

摘要： In a device for converting into video signals the light signals from desired sections of a flat object such as a slide or a photographic print using a CCD-sensor (32), an optical system is provided which includes a lens unit (35) with a constant focal length. The optical system comprises at least two elements which are adjustable along the optical axis (30) and whose positions determine the image and the object distances for the imaging of the section of the object on the CCD-sensor (32). The two adjustable elements are connected by a gear mechanism (24) such that when the image and object distances are adjusted by the gear mechanism the lens unit (35) images the section of the object sharply on the CCD-sensor (32).
