摘要： An image reading apparatus includes an original document platform, a reflection carriage, a wire, a pulley, a slide member, a projecting section and a guide section. The reflection carriage includes a mirror for reflecting light, and is moved in a first direction along a sub-scanning direction with respect to the original document. The wire is wound around a pulley. The slide member is installed on the reflection carriage, rotatably supports the pulley, and slidably moves in the first direction with respect to the reflection carriage. The projecting section is provided to project in a second direction that intersects with the first direction, on one of the reflection carriage and the slide member. The guide section is provided to extend in the first direction on the other of the reflection carriage and the slide member. The projecting section abuts against the guide section.

摘要： An image reader is provided with a transparent member which is placed in an optical path from the surface of an original document bed on the side of a carriage to a condensing lens, whereby when the transparent member exists at a predetermined position, the condensing lens can be focused on a translucent original existing at a position above the position of a reflection original. When the transparent member is at a second predetermined position, the condensing lens can be focused on the reflection original. The condensing lens can be focused on more than one position simply by placing the transparent member in the optical path, so that the structure is simple and the manufacturing costs can be reduced.

A single image reader is used in a first embodiment. When reading the image of a first side, the single image reader is stationary at a first position to read the original. When reading the image of a second side, the single image reader is moved to a second position corresponding to the size of the original, and reads the image of the second side while said image reader is stationary at the second position. The image reading apparatus of the second embodiment uses a stationary first reader for reading a first side of an original, and a movable second image reader for reading a second side of an original. The image reading apparatus of the second embodiment changes the position of the image reader in accordance with the size of the original.

摘要： An image reading apparatus of the invention is designed to read an image on a manuscript. The manuscript may be located under or above the image reading apparatus. The image reading apparatus comprises a casing, a reading mechanism situated inside the casing, an actuating mechanism situated inside the casing for moving the reading mechanism, and a circuit mechanism for controlling the reading mechanism and the actuating mechanism. The casing has a reading window formed inside an upper or bottom portion of the casing. An image to be read is placed adjacent to the reading window, and the reading mechanism reads the image through the reading window. The circuit mechanism is provided with at least one circuit plate, which is located at one side of the casing above or below a moving area of the reading mechanism. Accordingly, the size of the image reading apparatus is minimized. A grip is integrally formed with the casing, and the circuit plate is retained inside the grip.
