    • A method of fusion-splicing includes attaching a stab to a stub cap having a non-axisymmetric structure, positioning an embedded optical fiber to a fusion splicing working part by fixing the stub cap thereto; positioning an outside optical fiber to the fusion splicing working part; fusion-splicing the embedded optical fiber and the outside optical fiber; repositioning the embedded optical fiber to a reinforcing working part by fixing the stub cap thereto and repositioning the outside optical fiber to the reinforcing working part such that a relative positional relationship between the embedded optical fiber and the outside optical fiber becomes the same as that at the fusion splicing working part; and reinforcing a spliced portion between the embedded optical fiber and the outside optical fiber while a tension is applied to the embedded optical fiber and the outside optical fiber.

    • A method and apparatus capable of fusion splicing optical fibers to have a low loss or a prescribed loss. The method includes (a) detecting fiber positions and core positions of optical fibers to be spliced at an abutting position and a fiber offset that is caused when said optical fibers are in core alignment (b) determining the self-alignment ratio corresponding to the preferred melted condition value based on a predetermined expression for a relationship between melted condition value and self-alignment ratio, (c1) determining an intentional offset that achieves a prescribed splicing loss based on the fiber offset and the self-alignment ratio, (d1) aligning the core positions by offsetting the intentional offset value, and (e1) heating and fusing the optical fibers.

    • An image recording apparatus is disclosed. An image input device reads in graphic information and outputs the read-in graphic information as multi-tone image data. A pseudo tone generating device reduces the number of tones in the multi-tone image data from the image input device by processing a group of multi-tone image data to produce pseudo tone image data. An image printing device performs printing based on the pseudo tone image data generated by the pseudo tone generating device, the pseudo tone generating device being incorporated in the image printing device. The apparatus can also include an image storage device, for temporarily storing the pseudo tone image data generated by the pseudo tone generating device. The image printing device prints the pseudo tone image data stored in the image storage device.
