    • A water-insoluble liquid crystalline gel composed mainly of a water-soluble polymer, itself having a gelation function together with a liquid crystal formation function and having an optical property is produced.First, the water-soluble polymer is dissolved in water or an aqueous solution containing a salt(s) to prepare a polymer solution.
