    • A four-wheel drive vehicle has a transmission, main drive wheels operatively connected to an output shaft of the transmission, auxiliary drive wheels, and a transfer clutch for transmitting output of the transmission to the auxiliary drive wheels. A control system is provided with a detector for detecting speed ratio of front-wheel speed and rear-wheel speed and for producing a speed ratio signal, which represents steering operation of the vehicle and for producing a steering angle signal. A control unit is responsive to the steering angle signal for controlling torque of the transfer clutch so as to cause the transfer clutch to slip in dependency on the steering angle signal.

    • A system for controlling a power transmission of a four-wheel drive vehicle powered by an engine. The system is provided with a transmission for transmitting a power of the engine to main wheels, a clutch for selectively transmitting the power to auxiliary wheels, a vehicle speed sensor for sensing the speed of the vehicle and for producing a vehicle speed signal dependent on the speed, a steering angle sensor for sensing the steering angle of the vehicle and for producing a steering angle signal dependent on the steering angle. A control circuit is provided to compare the vehicle speed signal and steering angle signal with reference values and judge whether the condition is in the range of conditions causing tight corner braking and to produce a clutch signal. A switch is responsive to the clutch signal for disengaging the clutch, whereby the four-wheel drive is changed to the two-wheel drive.

    • A four-wheel drive vehicle in which the engine output is transmitted to front wheels and to rear wheel through a transfer clutch. The control unit determines a road gradient from the output value of a longitudinal acceleration sensor at a stop, sets a lower limit on the basis of the road gradient and is prepared for a start by outputting a drive signal corresponding to lower limit to a clutch control valve for controlling the applying force of the transfer clutch. Thus, the applying force is set according to the road gradient so that the main drive wheels at the slope can be prevented from slipping by the minimum transmission torque.
