摘要： A fiber-based adsorbent and a related method of manufacture are provided. The fiber-based adsorbent includes polymer fibers with grafted side chains and an increased surface area per unit weight over known fibers to increase the adsorption of dissolved metals, for example uranium, from aqueous solutions. The polymer fibers include a circular morphology in some embodiments, having a mean diameter of less than 15 microns, optionally less than about 1 micron. In other embodiments, the polymer fibers include a non-circular morphology, optionally defining multiple gear-shaped, winged-shaped or lobe-shaped projections along the length of the polymer fibers. A method for forming the fiber-based adsorbents includes irradiating high surface area polymer fibers, grafting with polymerizable reactive monomers, reacting the grafted fibers with hydroxylamine, and conditioning with an alkaline solution. High surface area fiber-based adsorbents formed according to the present method demonstrated a significantly improved uranium adsorption capacity per unit weight over existing adsorbents.

摘要： The present invention relates to metal coated nano-fibres obtained by a process that includes electrospinning and to the use of said metal coated nano-fibres. The process is characterised in that a polymer nano-fibre with functional groups providing the binding ability to a reducing reagent is prepared by electrospinning at ambient conditions. Then this is contacted with a reducing agent, thereby opening the epoxy ring on the surface of polymer nano-fibre and replacing with the reducing agent and the reducing agent modified film is reacted with metal solution in alkaline media. Finally the electrospun mat is treated with water to open the epoxy rings in the structure and crosslinking the chains to provide integrity.

摘要： An object of the present invention is to provide a discoloration inhibitor for metals, for protecting metal artifacts, such as those made of silver, copper, and nickel, or their alloys, from discoloration due to sulfur-containing gases such as sulfur oxide (SOx), mercaptans, and hydrogen sulfide, for example, during display or storage of the metal artifacts. A discoloration inhibitor for metals comprising: a fiber having a crosslinking structure and containing carboxyl groups therein, at least part of said carboxyl groups being present as a salt of an alkali metal, an alkali earth metal or ammonia; and fine particles of a metal and/or a metal compound substantially insoluble in water and reactive with a sulfur-containing compound dispersed in said fiber is disclosed.

摘要： Foam-based and powder-based adsorbents and a related method of manufacture are provided. The foam-based and powder-based adsorbents includes polymer foam or powder with grafted side chains and an increased surface area per unit weight to increase the adsorption of dissolved metals, for example uranium, from aqueous solutions. A method for forming the foam-based or powder-based adsorbents includes irradiating polymer foam or powder, grafting with polymerizable reactive monomers, reacting with hydroxylamine, and conditioning with an alkaline solution. Foam-based and powder-based adsorbents formed according to the present method demonstrated a significantly improved uranium adsorption capacity per unit weight over existing adsorbents.

摘要： The present invention provides fiber and a fiber structure having a high flame-retarding property and high moisture-absorptive property which do not generate noxious gases such as hydrogen halide gas upon burning, do not elute heavy metal compounds and phosphorus compounds therefrom even when reclaimed upon discarding including a burning treatment and have an excellent processing property. The present invention discloses a highly flame-retarding and moisture-absorptive fiber, characterized in that, it comprises an organic polymer having a cross-linking structure and a salt-type carboxyl group in which at least a part of such a salt-type carboxyl group is a magnesium salt type and a saturated moisture absorption rate at 20° C. and 65% relative humidity and a limiting oxygen index are not less than 35% by weight and not less than 35, respectively, and a flame-retarding fiber structure wherein the highly flame-retarding and moisture-absorptive fiber is used in at least a part of the structure.
