摘要： An optical-pickup apparatus includes: a laser diode having a first-laser element, which emits a first-laser beam, and a second-laser element, which emits a second-laser beam having a wavelength shorter than a wavelength of the first-laser beam, arranged in the same package; an objective lens to condense the first- and second-laser beams emitted from the laser diode to signal-recording layers of first- and second-optical discs, respectively, the second-optical disc being of a standard different from a standard of the first-optical disc; and a collimating lens arranged in an optical path between the laser diode and the objective lens, the collimating lens configured to change the first- and second-laser beams from divergent light to parallel light, the collimating lens being inclined with respect to optical axes of the first- and second-laser beams so that astigmatism in the first- and second-laser beams is corrected.

摘要： An optical pickup according to the present invention includes: a light source 1d for irradiating an optical disk 4 with light; a lens 3 for converging the light onto the optical disk 4; a photodetector 1c having a plurality of detection regions 1cf, 1ct for detecting light which is reflected from a signal surface of the optical disk 4 and converting the light into an electrical signal; a hologram element 1a having a hologram region 1b for guiding the reflected light to the photodetector 1c; and a light-shielding plate 2 for blocking at least a portion of light transmitted through a region of the hologram element 1a other than the hologram region 1b. The light-shielding plate 2 includes a light shielding portion 2b for blocking light, and an aperture 2a for allowing the light to be transmitted therethrough. The aperture 2b is present, above an upper face of the hologram element 1a, in a region including the hologram region 1b, and a center position of the aperture 2b is shifted from a center position of the hologram region 1b.

摘要： An optical pickup apparatus according to the present invention includes: a first light source for emitting a first light flux; a second light source for emitting a second light flux; a third light source for emitting-a third light flux; and an objective optical element. The objective optical element has an optical surface including at least two areas provided with optical path difference providing structures. The objective optical element converges the first to third light fluxes each passing through the predetermined areas on the objective optical element onto respective information recording surfaces of the first to third optical disks. The optical pickup apparatus provides a wavelength dependency of a spherical aberration so as to correct a change in a spherical aberration due to a refractive index change with a temperature change of the objective optical element.

摘要： A user-removable optical data storage system is provided. A rotatable first-surface medium is enveloped in a cartridge. The cartridge provides relatively large data capacity such as about 0.25 Gbytes or more despite a relatively small size such as about 35 mm×35 mm×3 mm. Preferably the cartridge substantially seals the data surfaces of the medium when the cartridge is withdrawn from a drive and at least a portion of one surface is automatically exposed to the objective of an optics arm when said cartridge is inserted in the drive. Tracking involves rotating an optic arm about an axis parallel to the disk rotation axis. Focus can involve pivoting the arm about an axis parallel to the disk surface.
