    • A self-commissioning method for estimating differential inductances in an electric machine, such as e.g. a synchronous reluctance machine or interior permanent magnet machine, with cross-magnetization effects is provided. The electric machine is driven with PWM voltages to explore current plurality of operating points of the currents in the electric machine while keeping the electric machine at standstill or quasi-standstill. At each operating point PWM switching voltage transients are used as a small-signal excitation. Currents of the electric machine are measured by means of oversampling, which permit the reconstruction of the waveforms including the current ripple within a PWM period caused by the PWM switching transients. Finally, the differential inductances at each operating point are determined based on the determined direct and quadrature current waveforms and voltages.

    • A method and a control device for identifying the angle and polarity of the rotor of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), the motor including a stator, including windings and a rotor including at least two permanent magnets. The method includes the steps of determining the rotor d-axis direction by supplying a stator voltage vector pulses to the motor terminals at at least two different stator angles, measuring the phase current at each angle, and determining rotor d-axis position based on motor inductance value in each stator angles calculated from the measured values and determining the rotor d-axis polarity by supplying a current vector to the motor terminals at the q-axis direction, and determining the magnet polarity by observing the direction of the rotor rotation during the test pulses.

    • An estimating method for a rotor position of a motor and an estimating device for the same are disclosed herein. The estimating method includes injecting a first high frequency signal to the motor at a first estimating angle, generating a first sensing signal of the motor in a period when the first high frequency signal is injected to the motor, injecting a second high frequency signal to the motor at a second estimating angle, generating a second sensing signal of the motor in a period when the second high frequency signal is injected to the motor, determining a quadrant of an operating angle according to the first sensing signal and the second sensing signal, and acquiring the rotor position according to the first sensing signal, the second sensing signal, and the quadrant of the operating angle.

    • To establish an initial/resting position of a permanent magnet rotor, all motor stator windings are stimulated (voltage applied thereto) in sequence, the time it takes for current in the stimulated stator winding to rise to a specific current value is measured for each stator winding and these time measurement results processed. From the measured time results rotor position to within 60 degrees is determined and the position sector is known prior to starting/rotating the motor. Once the rotor position is known, the next commutation point in a six step sequence is known before actually starting/rotating the motor. Position measurement winding stimulation may be interleaved with commutation pulses, or the unexcited stator winding may be stimulated between commutation pulses to the other two excited stator, wherein one of the two stator windings remains connected to the power and provides a current return path to the unexcited but stimulated stator winding.
