    • A locking system is mounted to a door with three rods extending therefrom. The rods have a locked position extending beyond the periphery of the door and an unlocked position not extending beyond the periphery of the door. Three rod receivers are adapted to receive the three rods in the locked position. A handle rotatably engages cam plates which are operatively engaged with the rods whereby rotation of the handle rotates the cam which moves the rod ends from one position to the other. A locking tab extends forwardly from the lower cam plate into a recess and is engaged by a circular lock while the recess prevents movement of the engaged circular lock. A second locking tab extends forwardly from the rod-locking link and a stationary locking tab is aligned thereto. Both locking tabs are engaged by a padlock preventing movement of the rod-locking link.

    • Disclosed is a method and system for providing several stages of closure of a luggage case (2), including an open stage, a pre-close stage in which one or more latching mechanisms are engaged, and a secure stage in which a drawing action pulls both shells of the luggage case (2) further together. Also disclosed is a method and system for automatically ensuring proper latching of the multiple latching mechanisms around the perimeter of a luggage case (2). The latching mechanisms may be aligned by use of a single operative mechanism (16). The present invention comprises a low-friction, durable system. The present invention ensures security of a user's belongings by providing the extra measurement of closure. The user enjoys a single operative mechanism (16), and needs to exert only a minimal amount of pressure to latch the case (2), thanks to a clever design of the single operative mechanism (16). The user needs not worry about their suitcase (2) popping open due to a failed latching mechanism.

    • A cargo bay cover for a pickup truck includes at least first and second panels hingedly connected to each other. The first panel includes a release mechanism including a lever arm that is movable between a released position and an unreleased position, and a lock that is movable to a locked position preventing movement of the lever arm. The cover includes a resiliently deformable panel latch that is released when the first panel is opened and that is capable of flexing around a keeper if the cover is opened incorrectly. The cover includes a unique mounting clamp for attachment to the pickup truck. A second half of the mounting clamp rides up a shoulder on a first half of the mounting clamp as the halves are drawn together, enabling the to pinch in two directions—one parallel to the drawing force and another perpendicular to the drawing force.

    • A panic exit door locking mechanism adapted particularly for mounting on a narrow stile door frame, and which includes top and bottom bolt mechanisms respectively at the upper and lower ends of the tubular frame at the swinging edge of the door, the locking instrumentalities including a rotatable lever arrangement concealed within the tubular stile, and being connected to the bolt mechanisms by concealed rod structures that are length adjustable for doors of different heights. Actuators for the rotatable lever arrangement comprise a manually operable panic exit actuator device mounted on the inner side of the door and/or a conventional key-controlled rotatable cam lever having a lost motion relation with the rotatable lever arrangement. The bottom bolt mechanism has a conventional reciprocable bolt, while the top bolt mechanism has a fixed bolt mounted on the door header, this bolt being utilized to actuate associated latching mechanism carried by the door to a bolt-latching position when the door is closed, and to a non-latching position when the door is open, movements of the latching mechanism being further utilized to control the operation of associated dogging members so as to dog the latching mechanism with respect to the top bolt, when the door is closed, and to dog the bottom bolt in retracted position when the door is opened.

    • The specification and drawings disclose a drive mechanism particularly suited for plug-type rail car doors and arranged to prevent ''''overspinning'''' and ''''drifting.'''' The mechanism disclosed is a double brake-type mechanism and includes a first rotatably mounted member. The first member is arranged to transmit force in either direction of rotation and is connected with an imput drive mechanism and a driven mechanism that, at times, produces forces acting to drive the member in its driven direction at a rate greater than that produced by the imput drive mechanism. The drive mechanism includes a rotatable pinion gear carried on a rotatable imput shaft extending generally parallel to the axis of rotation of the first member. The pinion gear is connected with the shaft by means which cause it to move longitudinally of the shaft to a first or a second spaced point depending upon the direction the shaft is rotated. At each of the points, there are ratchet wheels which are freely rotatable relative to the shaft except when the pinion gear moves to engage them at their respective points. When engaged, the ratchets permit movement of the shaft only in one direction. The arrangement is such that should the driven mechanism begin moving the member at a rate greater than the pinion, the pinion will move longitudinally of the shaft to engage the other ratchet wheel and prevent movement of the shaft in response to force imput from the driven mechanism.
