    • A ringtrip detector comprises a reference counter for controlling a battery current generator, which shapes the ring signal, a zero pass detector for detecting zero passes in a voltage at a node, which is proportional to the telephone line current and two other counters. The zero passes of the voltage create a pulse at both the positive and the negative zero crossing of the zero pass detector. The reference counter is gated into a memory, when these pulses appear. The zero passing of the previous and the present ring cycle are stored in the memory. A counter decides the difference between the previous and the present ring cycles zero passes. If the zero pass difference between the present and previous ring cycles is greater than a fixed value, the output will indicate a "phase difference" and if it is less than the fixed value it will indicate "no phase difference". Another counter counts a predetermined number of successive ring cycles with "no phase difference" at the start of a ring burst signal, and after establishing the ring burst signal, another predetermined number of successive ring cycles with "phase difference" is counted to detect the ringtrip.

    • A telephone circuit, which may be monolithically integrated, for supplying ringing signals to a subscriber's line and for detecting an off the hook condition during ringing includes a circuit for supplying ringing signals coupled to exchange control components for generating a constant frequency sinusoidal signal which gives rise to the ringing signals and an enabling circuit, controlled by the exchange components, for enabling the supplying of the ringing signals to the line and for activating a circuit for detecting a direct current on the line. The circuit for detecting a direct current on the line supplies a signal to a circuit for controlling the detection of an off the hook condition, and which supplies an inhibiting signal for the enabling circuit and check, only after a predetermined time, whether the circuit for detecting a direct current on the line is still supplying a signal and for generating a signal informing the exchange components that the set has been off the hook. The circuit also includes a circuit which amplifies the ringing signals and simultaneously supplies the telephone line. A circuit for generating timing signals synchronizes the operation of the enabling circuit and the circuit which controls the detection of the off the hook condition, and also the supplying of ringing signals to the line, during the times in which the sinusoidal signal generated by the exchange control components has a zero amplitude.

    • Ring trip is detected when a telephone set which is being rung goes off-hook, through the use of a comparator in which the ringing signal superimposed on battery feed voltage is compared with a fixed reference voltage closer to ground than the battery feed voltage. Inasmuch as the duty cycle of the ringing signal with respect to the reference voltage is less than or equal to 50% under pre-trip (on-hook) conditions and will increase under trip (off-hook) conditions, the comparator output is a square wave form of corresponding duty cycle. An up-down counter is caused to count up when the comparator output wave form is of one level and down when the comparator output wave form is of another level during each cycle of the ringing signal. The counter counts up during the portion of the comparator wave form which determines the duty cycle and down during the rest of the period of the cycle. Underflow and lack of underflow states of the counter respectively indicate nonring trip and ring trip conditions. Logic responsive to these conditions causes deactuation of a ringing relay to enable disconnection of the ringing signal from the ring lead going from the line circuit to the telephone set. The line circuit has a calling bridge which provides an output which is used to prevent the ringing relay from reoperating unless the telephone set remains on-hook after ring trip detection.

    • The duty cycle of an AC telephone off-hook signal is measured by means of comparing it with the duty cycle of a known AC signal having a duty cycle of 0.5 because it has a DC component of zero. Measurement of the duty cycle in a telephone off-hook detector application involves measuring the DC portion of the signal on a pair of telephone lines from a telephone handset to an exchange. A high frequency master clock oscillator with a much higher frequency than the basic ringing voltage is used. An input signal is used to gate clock pulses to a counter when the input signal is positive. At the end of a predetermined number of clock pulses, the counter is gated into memory connected to a decoder for transmission of the decoded signal to the exchange for appropriate action.
