    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine automatic stop and restart device capable of reflecting driver's intention to automatic stop control during towing and selecting a reduction in energy consumption by automatic stop even during towing.SOLUTION: An engine automatic stop and restart device comprises an automatic stop prohibition switch for changing over between permission and prohibition of automatic stop through the operation by a driver, a changeover operation detection means for detecting presence and absence of changeover operation for automatic stop permission and prohibition by the automatic stop prohibition switch and a towing switch for detecting presence and absence of the towing of a towed object. A control means of the engine automatic stop and restart device permits and prohibits the automatic stop based on the automatic stop prohibition switch irrespective of the presence and absence of towing when the changeover operation by the automatic stop prohibition switch is detected (S9) and towing is detected (S8), and prohibits the automatic stop (S10) when the changeover operation by the automatic stop prohibition switch is not detected (S9) and towing is detected (S8).

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent engine oil from coming from an air hole of an oil level sensor provided inside of an oil pan and from giving adverse effect to detection accuracy. SOLUTION: The oil level sensor 12 arranged inside of the oil pan 11 of an engine and detecting oil level is provided with an attachment part 15 and a sensing part 16, and a perimeter of the air hole 21b formed on a top end of a cover member 21 of a sensing part 16 is covered by a cylindrical part 25a of a shielding member 25 attached on a baffle plate 23 of the oil pan 11. Consequently, splashes of engine oil in the oil pan 11 is inhibited from intruding into the cover member 21 of the sensing part 16 from the air hole 21b and detection accuracy of the oil level sensor 12 can be improved. Since a gap α for breathing is formed between the cylindrical part 25a and the baffle plate 23, detection accuracy can be secured by keeping inner pressure not change even if a lower end of the cylindrical part 25a is submerged in oil.     • PURPOSE:To avoid the unnecessary lowering of engine output by advancing the ignition timing at the time of detecting the rise of the engine cooling water temperature exceeding the specified value, and shifting the ignition timing control range onto a high octane value side characteristic upon the confirmation of no knock being detected. CONSTITUTION:This ignition timing control device is provided with an intake pressure sensor 26, a water temperature sensor 30, an intake air temperature sensor 32, a crank angle sensor 40 and a knock sensor 44, and these output signals are inputted into a control unit 50. The control unit 50 is provided with a setting means for setting plural ignition timing control ranges according to the octane value of applied fuel so as to select one ignition timing setting range corresponding to the octane value of the applied fuel on the basis of the output of the knock detecting means. When the engine cooling water temperature rises exceeding the specified value during the ignition timing control range on the low octane value side being applied, the ignition timing is advanced by the specified time, and upon the confirmation of no knock being generated during that time, the ignition timing control range is shifted to the ignition timing control range on the high octane value side.
