    • A heater element for use in a circuit breaker whose initial shape can be varied to achieve various trip ratings for different circuit breakers. The material composition of the heater element and the bimetal strip indirectly heated by the heater element are kept the same. The electrical resistance presented to current passed through the heater element is varied by varying the shape of the heater element. The shape of one heater element relative to another heater element varies according to one geometric parameter. The geometric parameter may be surface geometry, thickness, or cross-sectional area.

    • A circuit breaker having a switch rated current setting on an electronic tripping unit is described. This is suitable for all circuit breakers having an electronic tripping unit that can be removed from the circuit breaker housing after removing a seal and can be lockably parameterized at the rated current of the circuit breaker. In parameterization of electronic tripping units of circuit breakers, the possibility of unauthorized parties tampering with the tripping unit must be prevented. Therefore, the tripping unit is equipped with a monitoring circuit which prevents the possibility of parameterization of the tripping unit when there is a galvanic connection between the trip magnet and the tripping unit. This permits parameterization only when the tripping unit has been removed, i.e., only by authorized personnel.

    • An electronic trip unit is adapted for connection to a circuit breaker for circuit interruptions. The electronic trip unit includes a frame module shaped to define a recess. An electronics module is releasably connected to the frame module. The electronics module has a housing, a circuit board assembly, and a facing surface providing access for adjustment of the electronics module. The housing of the electronics module is sized and shaped to fit at least partially within the recess defined by the frame module. An engagement surface is positioned for releasable engagement between the frame module and the electronics module in order to permit removal and replacement of the electronics module with respect to the frame module.
