摘要： A highly selective, sensitive, fast detection system and method are disclosed for detecting vapors of specific compounds in air. Vapors emanating from compounds such as explosives, or stripped from surfaces using heat and suction from a hand-held sample gun, are collected on surfaces coated with gas chromatograph (GC) material which trap explosives vapors but repel nitric oxide, then are desorbed and concentrated in one or more cold spot concentrators. A high speed gas chromatograph (GC) separates the vapors, after which specific vapors are decomposed in two pyrolyzers arranged in parallel and the resulting nitric oxide is detected. A low temperature pyrolyzer with silver produces NO from nitramines or nitrite esters; a high temperature pyrolyzer decomposes all explosives vapors to permit detection of the remaining explosives. Also disclosed is a series arrangement of pyrolyzers and gas chromatographs and an NO detector to time-shift detection of certain vapors and facilitate very fast GC analyses. The use of hydrogen as a carrier gas, plus unique collectors and concentrators, high speed heaters, NO detectors, and very fast, temperature-programmable GC's enhance selectivity, sensitivity and speed of detection.

The couplings each include a pair of spring catches having teeth to be held in an annular groove by a slidable sleeve. Tongues engage in cutouts to permit transmission of torque. The end section has air openings and can have a hook to allow it to be hung over the upper edge of a vehicle side. The termination section has part of a quick release coupling and can have a bend for use in orientation and manipulation. There can be one or more intermediate sections of different length, or the end section can be inter-connected directly to the termination section.

摘要： The present sampling system provides a means for continuous vapor phase analysis of an indefinite number of process streams in a single operation. The process being sampled is connected into a single analyzing instrument by more than one delivery conduit. Each delivery conduit is heated between the process and the analyzer to a temperature sufficient to maintain the selected sample in its vapor state. During the sampling only one delivery conduit is carrying the sample into the analyzer. At the same time, a purge fluid is being backflushed into the process through each remaining delivery conduit. The backflushing sequence clears out polymerizable materials or other substances which tend to collect inside the conduit.

摘要： An apparatus and a method by means of which oxygen and carbon dioxide dissolved in a liquid in a sealed container and oxygen in the headspace of the same container can be determined. The apparatus can also be used to measure dissolved oxygen in liquids in open containers. A valve fitted with a syringe makes it possible to draw representative samples of known volume from both the headspace and the liquid within the container. The specimens thus obtained are directed into an oxygen-free stream of inert gas from which CO2 is absorbed and the O2 is transferred to an oxygen detector. Dissolved CO2 is determined from a reading of the total gas pressure on a gauge and from measurements of the volume of liquid in the container and the volume of the container itself.
