摘要： A miniature, low cost mass spectrometer capable of unit resolution over a mass range of 10 to 50 AMU. The mass spectrometer incorporates several features that enhance the performance of the design over comparable instruments. An efficient ion source enables relatively low power consumption without sacrificing measurement resolution. Variable geometry mechanical filters allow for variable resolution. An onboard ion pump removes the need for an external pumping source. A magnet and magnetic yoke produce magnetic field regions with different flux densities to run the ion pump and a magnetic sector mass analyzer. An onboard digital controller and power conversion circuit inside the vacuum chamber allows a large degree of flexibility over the operation of the mass spectrometer while eliminating the need for high-voltage electrical feedthroughs. The miniature mass spectrometer senses fractions of a percentage of inlet gas and returns mass spectra data to a computer.

摘要： An ion trap having a segmented electrode structure having a plurality of segments consecutively positioned along an axis, wherein each segment of the segmented electrode structure includes a plurality of electrodes arranged around the axis. A first voltage supply is configured to operate in a radially confining mode in which at least some electrodes belonging to each segment are supplied with at least one AC voltage waveform so as to provide a confining electric field for radially confining ions within the segment. A second voltage supply is configured to operate in a trapping mode in which at least some of the electrodes belonging to the segments are supplied with different DC voltages so as to provide a trapping electric field that has an axially varying profile for urging ions towards and trapping ions in a target segment of the plurality of segments. A first chamber is configured to receive ions from an ion source, wherein a first subset of the segments are located within the first chamber. A second chamber is configured to receive ions from the first chamber, wherein a second subset of the segments are located within the second chamber, and wherein the target segment is one of the second subset of segments. A gas pump is configured to pump gas out from the second chamber so as to provide the second chamber with a lower gas pressure than the first chamber. A gas flow restricting section is located between the first chamber and second chamber, wherein the gas flow restricting section is configured to allow ions to pass from the first chamber to the second chamber whilst restricting gas flow from the first chamber to the second chamber.

摘要： Ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) systems, devices, and associated methods of operation are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, an IMS system includes an ionization region configured to receive and ionize a sample into ionized molecules and a detector configured to detect ionized molecules. The IMS system also includes a drift region in between and directly coupled to both the ionization region and the detector. The drift tube includes a first ion gate proximate the ionization region and a second ion gate proximate the detector. The first and second ion gates are configured to alternately introduce a batch of ionized molecules toward the detector while the other is maintained open, thereby allowing accurate measurement of a drift time of the ionized molecules corresponding to a drift length that is a distance between the first and second ion gates.

The ion transfer apparatus is configured to have, in use, at least one pair of adjacent pressure controlled chambers for which a ratio of pressure in an upstream pressure controlled chamber to pressure in a downstream pressure controlled chamber is set such that there is substantially subsonic gas flow in the downstream pressure controlled chamber.

摘要： An ion transport optical system is disposed between a collision cell and an orthogonal acceleration unit. When releasing ions that are held in the collision cell, an accelerating electric field in which a large potential difference exists is created between an exit-side end of an ion guide and a first stage of the ion transport optical system, and a decelerating electric field in which a relatively small potential difference exists is created between a final stage of the ion transport optical system and an entrance end of the orthogonal acceleration unit. In the accelerating electric field, the velocity of ions is increased overall by imparting a large amount of energy to the ions, and spreading of ions in the ion travel direction that is caused by differences between the mass-to-charge ratios of the ions is reduced.

A voltage supply apparatus is applied between the hollow emission needle and the mass spectrometer to establish a voltage between the hollow emission needle and the mass spectrometer and to induce particles to enter the mass spectrometer for analysis.
