    • In a swash plate type hydraulic unit for use as a swash plate type hydraulic pump and a hydraulic motor, a plurality of block plates 41 to 45 being divided at split planes extending orthogonal to a cylinder block axis X are soldered to one another to form a cylinder block 4. Inlet holes 25i and 39i for supporting plungers 27 and 41 slidably therein are formed in an inlet-side one of the block plates 41, 42; 44, 45 located close to plunger swash plates 9a and 19a, while in remaining inner-side ones of the block plates 43 to 45; 41 to 43 are formed inner holes 25o and 39o of a diameter larger than that of the inlet holes 25i and 39i, the inner holes 25o and 39o each defining an oil chamber to which the outer peripheral surface of the associated plunger 27, 41 faces. With this arrangement, a cylinder block structure superior in mass-productivity is provided.

    • It is intended to provide a swash plate type continuously variable transmission capable of automatically affording a lock-up state in which second distributing valves are stopped at their stroke mid-point to cut off motor ports when a motor swash plate stands upright, even without using any special interlocking mechanism. Second distributing valves for bringing motor ports of motor cylinder bores into communication with a high-pressure oil path and a low-pressure oil path selectively in an alternate manner are arranged in parallel with the axis X of a cylinder block; a valve swash plate for reciprocating the second distributing valves is integrally combined with a motor swash plate on the same slant plane; and the motor ports are formed so as to be controlled selectively by the second distributing valves at respective positions 90.degree. out of phase in the circumferential direction of the cylinder block 4 with respect to the corresponding motor cylinder bores, the second distributing valves being stopped at their stroke mid-points when the motor swash plate stands upright. In a swash plate type hydraulic unit for use as a swash plate type oil-hydraulic pump or motor, it is intended to attain the reduction in radial size of the hydraulic unit while ensuring a sufficient plunger stroke.

    • In a hydrostatic continuously variable transmission, a pump cylinder of a swashplate type hydraulic pump is integrally and coaxially coupled with a motor cylinder of a swashplate type hydraulic motor. A number of distributor valves are radially arranged for reciprocal movement between radially inner and outer positions to put a large number of pump ports in the hydraulic pump into communication with the higher and lower pressure oil passages, and an eccentric ring circumscribed about the distributor valves is connected to an input member of the hydraulic pump for movement between a clutch OFF position and a clutch ON position. A clutch spring is connected to the eccentric ring for biasing the eccentric ring toward the clutch OFF position, and a weight is added to the eccentric ring and adapted to exhibit a centrifugal force for moving the eccentric ring toward the clutch ON position against a spring force of the clutch spring.
