摘要： Devices and methods are provided herein for the transmission of power in motor vehicles. Power is transmitted in a smoother and more efficient manner by splitting torque into two or more torque paths. A continuously variable transmission is provided with a ball variator assembly having an array of balls, a planetary gearset coupled thereto and an arrangement of rotatable shafts with multiple gears and clutches that extend the ratio range of the variator. In some embodiments, a locking clutch is operably coupled to the planetary gearset to selectively couple two of the elements of the planetary gearset during operation. Engagement of the locking clutch corresponds to a fixed ratio operating mode. Disengagement of the locking clutch corresponds to a variable ratio operating mode.

摘要： An electronic controller is described herein that enables electronic control over a variable ratio transmission comprising a continuously variable ratio portion, such as a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), Infinitely Variable Transmission (IVT), or variator. The electronic controller is configured to receive input signals indicative of parameters associated with a prime mover or an engine coupled to the transmission. The parameters include throttle position sensor values, vehicle speed, gear selector position, user selectable mode configurations, and the like, or some combination thereof. The electronic controller also receives one or more control inputs. The electronic controller determines an active range and an active variator mode based on the input signals and control inputs. The electronic controller controls a final drive ratio of the variable ratio transmission by controlling one or more electronic actuators and/or solenoids that control the ratios of one or more portions of the variable ratio transmission.

The driver can give input to the vehicle in three ways: the brake pedal, the accelerator pedal, and the joystick (operating auxiliaries). The brake pedal and accelerator pedal input signals are mainly related to the requested total vehicle action; the joystick signals are mainly related to operation of auxiliary devices equipped on the vehicle. The auxiliary devices can be for example: hydraulic functions, additional power consumers, etc. A control system is described herein that is configured to receive a commanded load requested by the user and control the transmission based at least in part on the commanded load.

摘要： A front wheel drive or rear wheel drive continuously variable transmission having an input shaft, an output shaft, a continuously variable tilting ball planetary variator, a complex planetary arrangement having first, second, third, and fourth rotating elements, and a plurality of torque transmitting devices. The complex planetary arrangement has a simple single pinion gearset and a compound double pinion gearset, having fixedly connected planetary carriers and fixedly connected ring gears, creating a joint planetary gear carrier and joint ring gear. The outer planetary gears engage the ring gear which drives the output shaft. Selective torque transmitting devices include clutches and braking clutches. Alternative variations of the continuously variable transmission configurations utilize two simple planetary gearset assemblies instead of a complex planetary arrangement with and without variations of torque transmitting device configurations.

摘要： This invention relates to controlling the speed ratio of a Continuous Variable Transmission with a hydraulic method. The Ball Planetary CVT design is adapted with a mechanical and hydraulic addition. The carrier of the ball-type variator is supported by hydraulic actuators. The result is that the speed ratio is controlled by both a set speed ratio and the torque flowing through the CVT. Subsequently, torque peaks are avoided and controllability of the CVT is increased.
