    • An electronic key, e.g., a wireless key for a vehicle, is disclosed. The key has a housing with a housing wall having a semi-transparent display section. An information symbol for representing information to be displayed to a user is further provided. The display section has a housing wall section with reduced wall thickness, wherein a light-impermeable layer, in which recesses representing the information symbol are produced, is applied to an inner side of the housing. The combination of a housing wall section of reduced thickness and the light-impermeable layer on the inner side of the housing as an information symbol provided in the display section creates an information symbol that may be very sharp and bright when backlit and, due to the semitransparent formation of the display section, is not visible when not backlit.

    • The lock has a rotatable latch. The latch is mounted for movement between a position wherein it engages a fixed part of the vehicle to secure the door in the closed position and a position remote from the fixed part of the vehicle such that the door can be opened. A latch movement preventing member is moveable relative to the latch between a position remote from the path of movement of the latch, wherein the latch is free to disengage the fixed part of the truck, and a position intersecting the path of the latch, wherein movement of the latch to disengage the fixed part of the truck is blocked. A pair of magnets are oriented to force the member to move from its remote position, against the action of a spring, to its intersecting position, to prevent the latch from disengaging the fixed part of the truck.

    • A rotary electronic locking system for locking utility box or storage compartments installed on trucks or other vehicles, using a remote device like a remote key fob to lock and unlock the storage compartments, or by wiring the system to the vehicle's factory-installed electronic door lock system and utilizing the remote device supplied with the factory-installed electronic door lock system to lock and unlock the storage compartments. The rotary electronic locking system operates independently from the existing handles on the storage compartments. It may be used as a primary or secondary locking system, providing additional security. The system includes a rotating rod assembly with strikers, which is rotated by an electronic actuator causing the strikers to engage with or disengage from striker plates attached to the interior of the storage compartments. A wireless remote device is used to signal the electronic actuator to rotate the rotating rod assembly or, if the system is wired into the factory-installed electronic door lock system, the remote device that operates the door locking system may be used to signal the electronic actuator to rotate the rotating rod assembly to lock or unlock the storage compartment doors.

    • A rebound locking mechanism (10) is taught that consists of a spring loaded shaft (28) having an activating flat (34) thereon, a spring loaded latch (78) interfacing with the shaft activating flat and a rebound plate (40) attached to the shaft. An inertia flywheel (56) having an offset protruding striker (58) is in alignment beneath said rebound plate, with an electric motor (60) rotating the flywheel. In operation when the motor rotates the flywheel in a counter clockwise direction, the striker hits a top surface of the rebound plate and bounces the flywheel clockwise until the striker hits beneath the rebound plate causing the shaft to rotate realigning the flat permitting the latch to rotate under spring urging and thereby repositioning the catch from a locked position into an unlocked position.
